Formerly known as Dangerously Yours, Matinee Theater was a 30-minute radio show that aired on CBS every 2 in the afternoon. It was sponsored by The Vicks Chemical Company, the creator of Vicks VapoRub, and starred by Victor Jory and many other guests. Because of the change in the show’s title, it was able to have room for a variety of genres like love stories, adventures, and even drama. Some of the stories featured were Beautiful Dreamer, The Pirate of Orleans, and The Love Story of Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning. Apart from those, classics like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights were also aired. The show started on October 22, 1944 and ended on April 8, 1945, after a total of 22 episodes. NBC had a television adaptation of this show, and it won the Golden Globe Award for best TV show.
