It tells the unsuccessful attempts of Irvine and Leigh Mallory in 1924, up to the successful stories of Edmond Hillary in 1953, and Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler in 1978. The characters of the story explain their mix feelings of weariness and euphoria as they reach the summit of what is known to be as a beautiful bride wearing a deadly veil of clouds.
