EPISODE INFORMATION FOR ''Alias Doctor Svengali'' OLD TIME RADIO SHOW

Title:Alias Doctor Svengali
Air Date:June-15-1946
Plot:+ Program #2 (2). Teleways/Charles Michelson syndication. "Alias Dr. Svengali". Music fill for local commercial insert. A mystery-adventure series, produced and syndicated by Teleways, and later syndicated by Charles Michelson. Starting in 1946, these dramas were built around searches for missing heirs and unusual bequests by the deceased. Warren Williams portray probate attorney Warren Francis O'Connell. Almost as strange as the wills, is after 26 programs, Michelson started syndicating an Australian series of the same name and format, produced by Grace Gibson Radio Productions. The casts are of course completely different, the organ music is by Desmond Tanner. Warren William played the part of the investigator (for the American shows, programs #1 through #29). The program numbers indicated are as they printed on the transcription (including two #13's). Program numbers in parentheses correlate with the WIBA run. In this broadcast: the story of the will of Phillip Martin which sought revenge against those who he thought had killed him; his psychiatrist and his wife. This script was also used on, "I Devise and Bequeath (see cat. #10730). These programs were syndicated, so each station broadcasting them could air the show on any day, time and sequence of their choice. A sales presentation for this series has been dated as January 15, 1946. This is unlikely, as an ad in Billboard, datelined May 25, 1946 mentions that Teleways is going to be formed, hinting that the sales presentation was dated June 15, 1946, not January. However, no broadcast of any program in the series is known before October 12, 1946 (on WCFL, Chicago). The sales presentation could have been recorded before any shows were "in the can," which could account for the delay. The broadcast dates are for WIBA, Madison, Wisconsin and are typical of the first run. The first show was heard on WIBA on December 5, 1946. Warren William, Marvin Miller, Lurene Tuttle, Howard Culver, Del Castillo (organist), Albert Ulrich (director), Robert Webster Light (producer), Ken Krippene (writer).
