Fred Allen was a comedy variety show that featured no less than comedian Fred Allen himself. It started from 1932 and ended in 1949, when he was forced to go off-air due to worsening health condition.
Fred Allen, whose complete name is John Florence Sullivan, was one of the best comedy actor and writer of what is known as American radio's classic era. He was best remembered for his gags with fellow, equally-talented comedian Jack Benny, and also for his tangle with his own network executives. Greatly known for his style and substance, Allen had a profound influence on other comedic talents like Johnny Carson, Stan Freberg, Groucho Marx, and Henry Morgan.
More than two decades after his death on March 17, 1956, Allen's contribution to radio and television was awarded by granting him a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
