Educating Archie was comedy radio show offered by the BBC Light Programme to its 15 million listeners. The show featured ventriloquist Peter Brough and his dummy Archie Andrews. Other stars in the show were Tony Hancock, Benny Hill, Harry Secombe, Dick Emery, Bernard Bresslaw, Bruce Forsyth and the young Julie Andrews. The show’s fame gave rise to a fan club with over 250,000 members. Due to its extreme popularity, it was even made to debut as a television show on ITV in 1956. Educating Archie began airing in June 1950 and ended in February 1958.
